Lemus HOME Hi-Fi Furniture

Are you one of those who are a little extra curious about the genius line behind the Lemus HOME sound furniture, or do you need to get the fine technical details with? So read on here, where one of our skilled sound engineers goes in depth with the genius line behind the Lemus HOME sound furniture.

The Lemus HOME amplifier

The heart of the Lemus HOME sound system is a finely developed DSP-based amplifier designed specifically for this type of application to work with and support streaming of audio and TV applications without it ever being noticed. The operation must be intuitive and easy in daily use.

The Lemus HOME amplifier is the sound processor behind the Lemus HOME product line. It has a quad-core DSP that calculates internally with a precision of 64 bit resolution. This means that any audio signal entering the DSP is processed without loss of information and to an unmatched precision. The device is a 100% digital device. Any input signal to the device from either streaming, optical or HDMI input is digital and remains digital and lossless throughout the system until it is finally converted to the driver output signals in the power dac amplifier. Compared to traditional amplifiers, where the load is unknown to the manufacturer, the amplifiers on the Lemus HOME amplifier are tuned specifically to the connected load, which in this case is directly in the driver's voice coil.

The Lemus HOME amplifier has the latest in streaming services like Google Cast, Apple AirPlay2, Spotify Connect, etc. Along with Bluetooth audio, HDMI (ARC) 2.0 audio and even an Aux 3.5mm analog / optical input.

The operating interface is made so that the inputs are automatically selected according to priority and that the volume of the product does not need any external interaction, it is adjusted either from the built-in streaming app or from the TV's remote control. via the built-in HDMI (ARC) / CEC interface.

If you prefer an external operating interface, it also comes with an optional RF smart remote control that allows you to manually control the device. The remote control does not require you to point at the device as it operates with radio frequencies and it will also provide feedback to the user about the current status of the device.

The acoustic advantage

Putting speakers in a piece of furniture has been done before. BUT putting actively powered speakers with a DSP that is capable of calculating 1.2 billion calculations every second in a piece of furniture and then calibrating the acoustics of each driver individually ... that's a whole other story. What has been done in the Lemus HOME series is to make acoustic measurements of ALL driver units, to fully analyze the effect of borders, corners, baffle, front cover, etc. With a total of 2700 acoustic measurements. We have a measurement for every 5 degree distance on a sphere around each driver inside the product. The art form performed here is then to transfer this almost infinite amount of measurement data to the perfect calibration to this system. This is what we spend 1.2 billion calculations every second doing. We assure that every Lemus HOME product will be delivered when it is at its the best - which is always. We know how the product is placed and assembled in advance, so we have no open questions. Except for one, the room where the product is located. To eliminate the last barrier to perfection, we have developed the Lemus HOME Space Correction system.

Lemus HOME Room Correction

Measured with the room correction system is to make the system easy to use, without compromising on performance. Basically, the system works like this:

Once we know the acoustic properties of the Lemus HOME product in advance, we use a smartphone (currently iPhone) to launch a stimulus into the room for calibration. The smartphone then captures the spatial acoustic data from the entire room as you walk around the room with your phone, it records the acoustic response at any location in your room. This collected data is then processed by our algorithm using the powerful CPU of your smartphone. Due to the fact that the smartphone has data from the entire room available, combined with knowing the acoustic output we put into the room from the Lemus HOME product, it is possible to distinguish between a large selection of acoustic room phenomena and make a correct correction for each of them. The system takes into account:

  • Boundary effect due to speaker placement near walls or corners.
  • Standing waves in space, known as space states
  • Reflection effects caused by reflections from nearby walls and corners.

The smartphone calculates the optimal correction for each of these parameters and serves it all on a silver platter for the Lemus HOME amplifier to receive it elegantly over your network from the smartphone. The whole process can be performed in less than a minute and the effect will bring your sound system and your listening experience to a whole new level.

Psychoacoustic volume compensation

It is well known that human hearing behaves differently depending on the sound pressure to which it is exposed. This phenomenon is often called volume effect. In the old days, volume was a feature you could enable or disable. This means that at low listening levels there was a compensation that would make the music sound right at this one low listening level - at all other levels it would not sound right. You often experience the effect of this when listening to music at very low levels. At low levels the bass appears as non-existent, but at higher levels the level is fine. We have gone head-to-head with this phenomenon and fixed it.

What we do is continuously monitor the sound pressure reproduced by Lemus HOME so we know what sound level the listener's ears are exposed to. By combining this with a constantly ongoing model of the psychoacoustic behavior of your hearing, as described in the latest research in standard ISO 226, we can fully compensate for the non-linearity of your hearing. And most importantly, you will not hear this, which is the whole point it works smoothly and quietly in the background and ensures that you always have the optimal listening experience. The effect speaks for itself. You can try to compare with any non-compensating system at low levels the difference is significant; the music sounds lively and impressive even on levels where you can speak while listening.

Intelligent protection

Perhaps the biggest benefit of having an active speaker system is that our amplifier knows exactly what they are working on. This also means that we can justify pushing the driver beyond what a traditional speaker system can do if we continue to monitor the system while avoiding causing damage or other unwanted effects in the driver or amplifier. This technology is a brand new chapter in the Lemus HOME series. We have constant monitoring in DSP for driver excursion, temperature, distortion, amplifier health and all the physical limitations of the system. In this way, we can allow the system to be pushed further than traditional systems where we leave the absolute best possible performance in the hands of the users whenever possible. The intelligent protection system is the main reason why the specifications of the Lemus HOME system may seem unrealistic, but they are not in fact justified by more intelligent measures taken.

Releasing the sound

Each driver in a Lemus HOME product has its own DSP-based correction filter connected. This filter compensates for all the acoustic artifacts that occur from and near the drivers. This correction filter is based on 2700 measurements for each driver at any angle around Lemus HOME. For acoustic engineers, this acts as a 3-dimensional CT-scanned image for a physician. Everything becomes star clear. We can see all the details at any frequency, distance and angle emitted from the driver. Based on this, we use heavy simulation tools to distinguish each artifact from each other and compensate them for the ideal performance. What happens when you apply the correction filter to each driver is breathtaking the experience can best be described as us releasing the sound. No obstacles, no distortion, no staining just free sound.

Lemus HOME Classic

Lemus HOME Classic lyd og billede anmeldelse

The sound system to Lemus HOME Classic is based on a stereo 2-way system with a total of 4 discrete DSP-controlled amplifier channels to run it.

The woofer are solid 8-inch long-stroke drivers with fiber-reinforced paper cone for optimal acoustic performance. They are housed in a closed enclosure in massive size so they can extend to breathtakingly low frequencies. Due to the fiber-reinforced paper cones, these drivers also deliver a crisp and clear midrange. The driver's range is fully utilized due to the intelligent Lemus HOME protection system so it can produce frequencies deeper than 90% of all floor-standing speakers on the market.

The tweeters selected for the Lemus HOME Classic are 1-inch soft dome tweeters with a specially coated dome specially selected for its clean and smooth performance. It is mounted in a waveguide that ensures that the acoustic energy is focused in the listening direction and avoids distortive interference with the exterior.

The driver is horizontally oriented with the tweeter speakers towards the ends of the furniture, which ensures that the sound image is as wide as possible. Due to the horizontal adjustment of the drivers, we have used DSP inside to ensure that the system's radiation is easily tilted towards the center, optimized with a seating distance of 3-5 meters.

Lemus HOME Artistic

Lemus HOME Artistic lyd og billede anmeldelse

The sound system to Lemus HOME Artistic is based on a stereo 2-way system with a total of 4 DSP-controlled amplifier channels to operate it. The bass system in Lemus HOME Artistic has a total of 4 5.25 bass speakers in a solid, cast aluminum chassis. They are fine-tuned and optimized for the cabinets they are used in and the DSP keeps them constantly under control. They are powered by the intelligent protection system that allows extended performance beyond what is normally possible and the system will perform far beyond most products on the market in the same or similar form factor.

The high frequencies of Lemus HOME Artistic are well taken care of by a specially designed neodymium 2 driver. The driver is specially designed to solve this task. Since it has to cover a large frequency range from 200 Hz to 20 kHz and also quite a high sound pressure level, a magnet and voice coil system for this driver has been developed from scratch. It is a long-stroke design that makes it possible to cover such a large bandwidth, but not at the typical expense of loss of high-frequency performance. It always stays sharp and clear thanks to proper technique and delicate use of DSP compensation. The fact that the entire frequency band from 200Hz to 20kHz is covered by a single driver also omits other artifacts such as loping (dead frequency ranges) caused by crossovers. The result is an excellent full-range system with an addictive extended low-frequency and superior high-frequency performance far above expectations for such a super-compact product.

Lemus HOME Piano

Lemus HOME Piano

The sound system to Lemus HOME Piano is its very own story. Behind the delicate exterior design hides a secret. A massive specially designed long stroke 8-inch subwoofer. The driver is so powerful and potent that it takes two full amplifiers to take full advantage of the performance from it. Fully utilized, this marvel will move up to 30mm in and out when you are safely enjoying your favorite movie or just in the mood for a wild home disco. This is the secret behind Lemus HOME Piano.

To match the huge sound pressure from the built-in subwoofer, it has two additional custom satellite speakers on each side of the Lemus HOME Piano nicely hidden behind the grill. With Lemus HOME Piano you will not even notice what comes to you it carries it all in style. The subwoofer and satellites are perfectly timed in the DSP to ensure that performance is optimized for your seating thus no need for further adjustments.
